Park and ride goes from £3.50 to £4.50 a day and all-day Park and Walk from £7.30 to £10 on 1 November. Every new Winchester car park price, old and new.

Parking in Winchester’s city council car parks will cost more from Sunday 1 November 2026. The all-day park and ride ticket rises from £3.50 to £4.50. Staying more than four hours in a Park and Walk car park goes from £7.30 to £10.00.

The new prices are set out in a formal notice from Winchester City Council, dated 24 September 2026 (Notice of Variation of Charges for Off-Street Parking). It is signed by the council’s Corporate Head of Service for Place. The notice uses the council’s power under Section 35C of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to vary charges, and it does not set out a way to object.

The notice gives no reason for the rises.

Short stays outside the centre are protected. The first hour stays free in the Park and Walk car parks, and two, three and four hours cost the same as now. The big rises fall on all-day parking, commuters and weekend shoppers who stay most of the day.

Bar chart of the rise in seven Winchester car park tickets from 1 November 2026: weekend stays of 4 to 6 hours at The Brooks and Middle Brook Street rise 156 per cent from £7.80 to £20.00; park and ride arriving after 10.30am rises 50 per cent from £3.00 to £4.50; Park and Walk over 4 hours rises 37 per cent from £7.30 to £10.00; River Park weekdays over 4 hours rises 29 per cent from £15.50 to £20.00; park and ride all day rises 29 per cent from £3.50 to £4.50; central car parks for 1 hour rise 10 per cent from £2.00 to £2.20; central car parks over 4 hours rise 8 per cent from £18.60 to £20.00

Central car parks: about 10% on every stay

The central car parks are The Brooks, Middle Brook Street, Colebrook Street, Friarsgate, Jewry Street, Cossack Lane, St Peter’s, Tower Street and Gladstone Street. They still charge every day, bank holidays included.

Daytime charging runs 8am to 7pm, with the overnight rate from 7pm to 8am. The notice now lists The Brooks separately, with daytime charges from 8am to 6pm. It has no overnight rate because it is closed at night.

The biggest single rise is at the weekend. The Brooks and Middle Brook Street currently offer a £7.80 ticket for up to six hours on a Saturday or Sunday. The notice removes it. A shopper who stays five hours on a Saturday will pay the over-four-hours rate of £20.00 instead, more than two and a half times as much.

Guildhall Yard, open at weekends only, keeps its current prices.

Winchester Sport and Leisure Park keeps its hourly prices: 90p for an hour up to £3.10 for four. Over four hours rises from £7.80 to £10.00. Three hours stay free for anyone using the paid leisure facilities.

What it means for you

  • Popping into town for an hour or two? Use a Park and Walk car park. The first hour is still free and nothing else under four hours changes.
  • Commuting by park and ride? A five-day week goes from £17.50 to £22.50. The annual season ticket, at £828, works out cheaper if you use it most working days.
  • Arriving after 10.30am on a weekday? You lose the £3.00 off-peak ticket and pay £4.50.
  • Shopping all day on a Saturday? Avoid The Brooks and Middle Brook Street for long stays. Over four hours there will cost £20.00. The Park and Walk car parks charge £10.00 and are free after 6pm.
  • Holding a Group D season ticket? Renewals after 1 November cost £497 more a year for a full-time ticket.

The station is still dearer for a weekday commuter. South Western Railway charges £10.90 for a peak day at Winchester station car park (SWR station page).

On-street bays are run by Hampshire County Council, not the city council, and are not part of this notice.
